Nearly a year after braving the frigid North Atlantic to observe a total eclipse of the Sun in March 2015, eclipse chasers can look forward to returning to tropical climes to observe the next total solar eclipse. Join veteran eclipse chaser Dr. Ralph Chou on a journey through Indonesia, the only country where the total eclipse track has a landfall on 9 March 2016. This relatively long eclipse is similar to the total solar eclipse of 26 February 1998, which was seen from the Caribbean islands of the Netherlands Antilles. Our site near the town of Pangkalanbuun will experience over 2 minutes of total eclipse.
The tour leader is Dr. B. Ralph Chou, Professor Emeritus of Optometry at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Dr. Chou is recognized as a world authority on solar eclipse eye safety, and is was a contributor to the NASA Solar Eclipse Bulletins until 2010. He has led 12 solar eclipse tours since 1983, and the 2016 event will be his 18th total solar eclipse. He has been a consultant for almost all of the major manufacturers of solar filters, and serves on the International Astronomical Union's Solar Eclipses Program Group as an advisor on eclipse eye safety.
