Here, we discover a tantalizing mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and baroque architecture arising from a history that goes back a millennium. Continue to Vienna, where we explore majestic palaces, witness performances of musical masterpieces, and experience the grand legacy of the Habsburg monarchy, which made its home here for more than six centuries. We end our wonderful adventure with the fairytale beauty of Budapest, where we take in a performance of traditional Hungarian folk dance, experience monuments from the city’s golden age in the late 19th century, and much more.

Day 01: Arrive Prague (CZECHIA)

Welcome to Zlata Praha (Golden Prague)*. With a history that stretches back a millennium, Prague was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Bohemia, as well as the residence of several Roman emperors. We are warmly received and transferred to our hotel. Check in time starts from 1500 hrs.  There’s time to relax or explore the city’s winding and picturesque streets before meeting our tour director for a welcome dinner, which includes a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.  At the reception, we will be introduced to our fellow travelers and the fascinating journey that awaits us.

Day 02: Prague

Built on seven hills and both banks of the Vltava River, Prague is one of the most alluring cities in Europe. This morning, we explore the old portion of the city. Our first stop is the historic Old Town Square, featuring Prague’s famous Astronomical Clock. Dating back to 1410, this medieval astronomical clock is the oldest still in operation. It tracks the time, the date, and even the position of the sun and moon! We also explore the Jewish Quarter, St. Nicholas Church, the Charles Bridge and more. The afternoon is at leisure. Don’t forget to enjoy Prague’s world famous Pivo beer! (B)

Day 03: Prague

We start our day by crossing the Vltava River to see the Royal Castle of Hradcany. Also known as Prague Castle, this castle complex was built in the 9th century and is the largest ancient castle in the world! Within the complex, we visit the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica and the Golden Lane with the Daliborka Tower. Rest of the day is free. Wander Prague’s inviting streets or just relax at a café and soak in the city’s street views! Prague is historically famous for its more than 40 theatres and their many performances. (B)

Day 04: Prague/Vienna (AUSTRIA) (Drive)

Travel by motor coach to Vienna*, the “City of Waltz”. The monuments and sites of beautiful Vienna reflect its fascinating history. It served as the centre of the massive Habsburg Empire for centuries, as well as the home of famous classical musicians ranging from Beethoven to Mozart. Here, we have free time to start discovering the city’s delights, from shopping to architecture to pastries. After a free afternoon, enjoy an evening concert of Strauss’s and Mozart’s music.

Day 05: Vienna

Start the day with a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the most important religious building in Vienna, and the Hofburg Palace, the seat of the Austrian government since 1279. Habsburg kings, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire and the current Austrian Federal President have all called this palace their seat. We then continue on to view Belvedere Palace, Prater Amusement Park and the UN Buildings. (B)

Day 06: Vienna/Budapest (HUNGARY) (Drive)

Depart for Budapest. In 1873, the twin cities of Buda and Pest joined with ancient Obuda to form a new, unified city, named Budapest*. Charming and beautiful, the city was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. We enjoy a sightseeing tour upon arrival that samples all the main attractions, including Parliament, the Royal Palace, Castle Hill area and Fisherman’s Bastion, providing spectacular views of the city and Danube River. We also explore Matthias Church, constructed during the second half of the 14th century, Heroes’ Square, and Gellert Hill with its Citadel, a fortress dating from 1851 which provides a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Remaining part of the day at leisure to explore this exciting city.

Day 07: Budapest

The entire day is free to explore the “Paris of the East”, shop along the Vaci Utca, nibble a delicious slice of apple strudel, sip some Hungarian wine, or perhaps enjoy an optional excursion. In the evening, join our fellow travelers and tour director for a farewell dinner. (B, D)

Day 08: Depart Budapest

After breakfast, we are transferred to the airport for our departure flight. Or, extend your adventure with visits to other highlights of the region, including Croatia, Albania and Poland. Contact Bestway for ideas. (B)
