The vibrant birdcalls and squabbles of the golden monkeys in the forest will eventually bring us to the gorillas in their natural habitat.  Starring into the eyes of these gentle giants is a truly once in a lifetime experience. Our specialized guide explains us about flora, fauna and lifestyle of the Gorillas. Depending on how the sighting goes we return to our lodge after what will have been an incredible experience. Afternoon is free to relax. The region here is popular to trace the Golden Monkeys – an exciting optional activity that lasts about 2 hours. Or you may just laze around. (B, L, D)

Day 07: Musanze/ Depart Kigali (Drive)

Morning drive to Kigali the capital of Rwanda. This relatively short drive will give us sufficient time to explore Kigali – rated as the cleanest city in Africa. We start with a visit to the Genocide Museum which explains much about the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi people – the human toll was 250,000 plus lives lost. A visit to the interesting museum after which we visit the Caplaki Crafts Centre.  We end our tour with a late lunch at the famous Hotel Rwanda (now Hotel de Milles Collines) where over a thousand Tutsis were kept safe by Hotel Manager Paul Ruseesabagina (a Hutu himself) who gave protection to over a thousand Tutsis. This was well documented in the movie called, Hotel Rwanda and we will be right at the place there it all happened walking around the premises and admiring the humanitarian efforts that were put at very high personal risks. Later, we are transferred to the airport for our departure flight – must be after 5PM. (B, L)
