Day 01: Arrive Maun/Makgadikgadi Pans (Drive) (BOTSWANA)
We are warmly met by our guide at the Maun Airport before continuing on to the area of the breathtaking Makgadikgadi Pans, one of the largest salt flats in the world. After settling into our accommodation, we take a stroll with our guide through the surrounding baobab grove as he explains the local ecology, geology and unique biology of the baobabs, which are not, in fact, trees, but the largest succulents in the world.
Overnight: Planet Baobab, Makgadikgadi Pans (2 nights) (L, D)
(Bakalanga huts with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool and bar)
Day 02: Makgadikgadi Pans
After breakfast, we venture out to one of two locations in the greater Makgadikgadi system: Nxai Pan (January to May, and December) or Ntwetwe Pan (June to November). Nxai Pan adjoins the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park at its northern border. The pan itself is covered in short grasses and small islands of acacia trees. It attracts vast numbers of desert herbivores such as gemsbok, springbuck and extraordinarily large herds of giraffe. In the south of the pan are Baines’ Baobabs, a cluster of baobab trees that are more than 1,000 years old and named after the famous artist who discovered them in 1862, Thomas Baines. It is rare to see Baobab trees so close together. Ntwetwe Pan is one of the two major pans that makes up Makgadikgadi Pans. Ntwetwe is famous for its extraordinary lunar landscape, which includes rocky outcrops, dunes islets and channels. We explore the area and search for uniquely adapted desert species such as bat-eared foxes, springbuck, kori bustards and some of the Kalahari’s most fascinating inhabitants, the meerkats. (B, L, D)
Day 03: Makgadikgadi Pans/Khwai River (Drive)
This morning, we travel via Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta*, to our camp, which is situated in a private concession in the Khwai River region. This large area is renowned for its concentration of mammals and it is not unusual to see many types of wildlife during just one game drive, including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. The area is also famous for its large concentration of raptors. After dinner, we experience Botswana after dark through an exciting night game drive.
Overnight: Khwai Bedouin Camp, Khwai River (2 nights) (B, L, D)
(Semi-permanent tented camp with en suite bathrooms - Please note that there is no electricity at the camp)
Day 04: Khwai River/Moremi Game Reserve/Kwai River (Drive)
Today we set out for an exciting full day safari in the famous Moremi Game Reserve, known as one of the most beautiful and varied reserves for Botswana safari tours. Moremi is in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango Delta, and offers an unprecedented concentration of wildlife. With the recent re-introduction of the black and white rhino, Moremi is a Big Five game viewing destination that also offers the chance to see more than 400 species of bird.

Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s finest havens for wildlife and is home to vast herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra, as well as a very large concentration of giraffe. What’s more, it is home to many predators, endangered species and varied bird life. We will also visit the Painted Dog Conservation Centre to witness the work being done to protect these endangered species. (B, L, D)
