Travelling along the Atlantic via Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay, we stop at Maiden Cove look-out point before continuing to Hout Bay. We carry on over Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most breathtaking coastal drives, to Cape Point and Good Hope Nature Reserve. In the afternoon, we journey on to Simon’s Town, a village with charming Victorian architecture, a naval base and a large penguin colony at beautiful Boulders Beach (entrance to Boulders Beach optional and at own account). (Chalets with en-suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)

Day 06: Sossusvlei

Today we wake up early to visit the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These dunes, which can reach heights of over 300 meters, are absolutely spectacular and provide a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). We also stop to view the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River. (B, L, D)

Days 07: Sossusvlei/Swakopmund (Drive)

Sossusvlei area

An interesting day as we drive through Namib Naukluft National Park on our way back to Swakopmund. The Namib-Naukluft Desert is home to some of the rarest plant and animal species in the world, and a drive to discover the flora and fauna is a must on any African safari vacation. The animals of this harsh landscape include oryx, springbok and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. Later in the day, we arrive at Swakopmund, with time to further soak up this town’s beauty and beaches.

(Standard rooms with en suite bathrooms)

Day 08: Swakopmund

A free day at hand to participate in a few of the many optional activities Swakopmund has to offer. Contact Bestway Tours & Safaris to arrange a township tour, a sand boarding excursion, or a fishing adventure in this scenic and exciting spot. (B)

Day 09: Swakopmund/Omaruru (Drive)

Leaving the coastline behind, we head inland across the desert plains to Spitzkoppe, an iconic group of curved granite mountains with vivid colours. After a walk among the boulders to view the ancient Bushmen paintings and engravings, we continue on to the town of Omaruru, where we overnight. Once a mission station, this settlement has great historic significance and has evolved into an artistic hub for local crafts and small industries. (Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)

Days 14: Etosha National Park/Kavango River (Drive)

Leaving Botswana, we drive up the western border of the Okavango Delta before crossing back into Namibia. Next we drive through the Caprivi to our camp on the banks of the Kwando River. En route to camp, we go on a game drive through Mahangu National Park, which is rich in fauna and flora. The park is home to elephants, hippo and buffalo, as well as sable, roan and many other types of antelope. Bird-watchers can also spot more than 420 different bird species.

Notes

Please Note:The rugged terrain and desert temperatures in Namibia cause significant strain on vehicles, specifically on the A/C systems. The rough, corrugated roads can literally shake the A/C apart and have a strong impact on the power of the vehicles. Please note that vehicles, while still being equipped with A/C, may often not be running with the A/C switched on in Namibia.
