Day 01: Arrive Jakarta

Upon arrival at Jakarta, we are warmly welcomed and transferred to our hotel. Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and the largest city in Southeast Asia! Remainder of the day is free to relax or start exploring.

Day 02: Jakarta/Bogor/Bandung (Drive)

Monas National Monument, Jakarta, Java Island, Indonesia

We start our exciting overland journey with a tour of Jakarta, including the National Monument, standing at 137-meters capped with a 50-kilo flame of gold symbolizing the nation's independence. We then journey to Bogor, with glimpses of the breathtaking diversity of the Indonesian archipelago. Here, experience the world class Bogor botanical garden, situated just behind the stunning 19th-century presidential palace. This botanical garden was officially established by the Dutch in 1817. It features more than 15,000 species of tropical plants from around the world, including 400 plus palm species, 5,000 trees and an orchid house with 3,000 varieties. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue on to Bandung via Puncak Pass, famous for its spectacular views of tea plantations on the mountain slopes.

Day 03: Bandung

Start the day with a scenic drive through the mountain resort of Lembang as we head to the crater of Mt. Tangkuban Perahu. The amazing winding road to the crater takes us through green gardens and mountain forests , ending with a panoramic view at the rim of the crater. We then head to Sari Ater, a resort known for its mineral water spas said to heal skin diseases. Time to soak your feet in the hot water pool and relax. After lunch at a local restaurant, we return to Bandung, where we are entertained by the Udjok Angklung Orchestra with a traditional bamboo music performance. (B, L)

Day 04: Bandung/Baturaden (Drive)

Today, savour a visit to scenic Cangkuang Lake, about 70 kilometers south of Bandung. Here, we cross on bamboo rafts to explore Cangkuang Temple, standing on an island in the middle of the lake. Continue to Tasikmalaya for lunch and visit the local handicraft centres. Enjoy scenes of rural life as we cross the border to Central Java, passing teakwood and rubber plantations en route. Our destination is Baturaden.

Day 05: Baturaden/Dieng Plateau/Yogyakarta (Drive)

Drive to Wonosobo, from where we take an excursion to Dieng Plateau (2,600 meters above sea level). Here, we experience some of Java’s oldest temples, thought to date back to the 8th century, against a beautiful mountain backdrop. Afterwards, continue on to the famous cultural centre of Yogyakarta.

Day 06: Yogyakarta

A highlight of our tour today as we dive into the cultural hub of Yogyakarta. Start with a visit to the Keraton (palace) of Yogyakarta, a splendid example of traditional Javanese court architecture. Construction of the Keraton began in 1755 and took almost 40 years. Afterwards, head to famous Borobudur Temple, one the greatest ancient architectural monuments in the world. Built between AD 750 and 850 using forced labor from the surrounding countryside, Borobudur predates Angkor Wat in Cambodia by three centuries. Though a Buddhist creation, it incorporates Persian, Babylonian and Greek influences. We also visit the nearby villages where the art of stone masonry is still being practiced in a similar manner to the peasants who built this astonishing monument. Next, experience the temples of Pawon and Mendut. Return to our hotel in the afternoon, with the remainder of the day free to relax or keep exploring. (B, L)

Day 07: Yogyakarta

This morning, explore the beautiful ancient temple of Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. Built in the 9th century, Prambanan consists of 240 structures, and is the largest temple in Southeast Asia after Angkor Wat.

We have the afternoon free to continue our exploration of Yogyakarta, one of Indonesia’s cultural capitals. (B, L)

Day 08: Yogyakarta/Bromo (Drive)

A unique experience and chance to see the countryside as we take a train to Jombang (departs at 6:55 AM and arrives at 11:00 AM). We then connect by road to Trowulan Museum, offering the largest collection of Majapahit relics in Indonesia. Continue on to Bromo for our overnight.

Day 09: Bromo/Bali (Flight)

Early morning drive by jeep to Cemoro Lawang village and Mount Penanjakan (2,770 meters), where we see a magnificent sunrise over the scenery below. From here, we continue to Mount Bromo. Ride by horse passed the spectacular sand sea before a final optional climb of 245 stairs to reach the crater rim. After enjoying amazing views, we return to our hotel for breakfast. Afterwards, transfer to Surabaya airport. A short flight gets us to Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, where we are met and transferred to Kuta for our overnight.

Day 10: Kintamani & Besakih  (Drive)

We drive to Batubulan village to see the famous Barong and Keris dance performances. Next, visit the art and handicraft villages of Celuk, Batuan, Mas and Ubud. Proceed to Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave), a Hindu meditation center dating back to the 11th century, and Then Tampak Siring, home of the holy spring water temple, Tirta Empul. Next, we view the magnificent panorama of the still active Mount Batur volcano and Lake Batur. Lunch is enjoyed at a local restaurant. (B, L)

Day 11: Tanah Lot Tour

Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Morning tour of Mengwi to view the beautiful Taman Ayun temple, dating from 1556 and one of Bali’s 6 royal temples. We then see the holy monkey forest at Kedaton, noted for its temples inhabited by colonies of friendly monkeys. Finally, experience Tanah Lot temple, scenically set on a cliff overlooking the turquoise ocean below. Afternoon is at leisure to enjoy Bali. (B)

Day 12: Depart Bali

Our experience of the culture and scenery of Java and Bali comes to the end as we are transferred to the airport in time for our departure flight. Or, extend your adventure to some of Indonesia’s less-travelled Islands, such as the rainforests of Sulawesi, home of the famous orangutans and the unique Toraja culture, or the incredible volcanic scenery of Sumatra. ♦ Travel between March 1 to April 7, 2025 is not recommended due to the event of Ramadan (Muslim fasting month), followed by the celebration of Idul FItri, which is a two week long public holiday for Indonesians.
♦ March 11, 2024 is Nyepi Day (Bali’s Day of Silence)

  • The silence begins sunrise around 6:00 am and will go on for the next 24 hours.
  • All shops are closed.
  • Guests are recommended to stay inside the hotels/resorts area.
  • When listening to music or watching TV in your hotel rooms, kindly keep the sound at minimum level.
  • There will be no traffic in the whole of Bali island.
  • Ngurah Rai airport will be closed, so there will be neither arrival nor departure in the airport on that day.
