Day 01: Arrive Maun/Makgadikgadi Pans (Drive) (BOTSWANA)
We are warmly met by our guide at the Maun Airport and transferred to our accommodations. The name Maun is derived from the San word “maung”, which means “the place of short reeds”. The afternoon is ours to spend at leisure, either relaxing poolside at the lodge or perhaps booking an exciting optional sunset cruise along the Thamalakane River. This evening, we will meet our guide and the rest of our group for our pre-departure meeting at 18h00.
Overnight: Thamalakane River Lodge, Maun (1 night)
(Chalets with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)
Day 02: Maun/Makgadikgadi Pans (Drive) (BOTSWANA)
We continue on our journey to the area of the breathtaking Makgadikgadi Pans, one of the largest salt flats in the world. After settling into our accommodation, we take a stroll with our guide through the surrounding baobab grove as he explains the local ecology, geology and unique biology of the baobabs, which are not, in fact, trees, but the largest succulents in the world.

(Bakalanga huts with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool and bar)
Day 03: Makgadikgadi Pans
After breakfast, we venture out to one of two locations in the greater Makgadikgadi system: Nxai Pan (January to May, and December) or Ntwetwe Pan (June to November). Nxai Pan adjoins the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park at its northern border. The pan itself is covered in short grasses and small islands of acacia trees. It attracts vast numbers of desert herbivores such as gemsbok, springbuck and extraordinarily large herds of giraffe. In the south of the pan are Baines’ Baobabs, a cluster of baobab trees that are more than 1,000 years old and named after the famous artist who discovered them in 1862, Thomas Baines. It is rare to see Baobab trees so close together. Ntwetwe Pan is one of the two major pans that makes up Makgadikgadi Pans. Ntwetwe is famous for its extraordinary lunar landscape, which includes rocky outcrops, dunes islets and channels. We explore the area and search for uniquely adapted desert species such as bat-eared foxes, springbuck, kori bustards and some of the Kalahari’s most fascinating inhabitants, the meerkats. (B, L, D)
Day 04: Makgadikgadi Pans/Greater Moremi (Drive)
This morning, we travel via Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta*, to our camp, which is situated in a private concession in the Greater Moremi region. This large area is renowned for its concentration of mammals and it is not unusual to see many types of wildlife during just one game drive, including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. The area is also famous for its large concentration of raptors. After dinner, we experience Botswana after dark through an exciting night game drive.
Overnight: Bedouin Bush Camp, Greater Moremi (2 nights) (B, L, D)
(Semi-permanent tented camp with en-suite bathrooms - Please note that there is no electricity at the camp. The camp is solar powered and camera and mobile phones can be charged in the communal areas should the power levels allow it.
