This 8 days specially tailored Rwanda Experience will take us right into the country, its people, wildlife, history and understand the success story of this tiny East African country. We explore both the Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Parks with an overnight and a boat ride at the enchanting Lake Kivu. Our activities will also include Chimpanzee trekking, tea plantation tour, hike to a lost water falls, canopy walk to get a great overview of Nyungwe forest, view the shy mountain gorillas, join the unique golden monkey trekking culminating with an exploration of Kigali, its people, market and reflect the history at the Genocide Museum. That’s not all, the Rwanda Experience also includes stay at the famous “Rwanda Hotel”.

Day 01: Arrival Kigali (RWANDA)
Upon arrival at Kigali airport we are welcomed by our safari driver and transferred to our hotel. Balance of the day is free. Dinner at your hotel. Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and is home to over a million people from the nearly 14million people in the country. A clean and neat city – an envy to many of its neighbours.

Day 02: Kigali/Nyungwe National Park (Travel time +5 hours)
An early morning start as we visit the King Palace Museum. It is a reconstruction of the traditional royal residences, shaped like a beehive recalling Nyanza as the one time and the heart of Rwanda. We will get us an insight into the great traditional ways of living among Rwandans and their past way of leadership of Kingship. After lunch we head for Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda’s largest National Park. Discover the park with lots of places to walk around.

Day 03: Chimpanzee tracking and tea plantation
Rwanda has 4 national parks which are all protected wildlife reserves and ecosystems. Today our day is set to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe well known for having 13 species of primates, many species of chimpanzees, owl-faced, colobus monkeys and elephants, buffalos, etc. The Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with panoramic views of the valley and surrounding forests. A trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids and waterfall.
At the park entrance we get a briefing about the chimpanzee trekking followed by an hour to trace the chimpanzees. After lunch at our hotel, we drive to a tea plantation tour, explore the tea estate, learn more about tea growing and processing. Dinner and overnight at our lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 04: Hike to the Waterfalls & Canopy Walk
After a relaxed morning start, we head for an easy to moderate 2-3 hours walk to the Waterfalls. We may spot some primates along with a number of birds. For those not wanting to do the hike, may take time off and enjoy some of the other attractions that the park offers. After lunch we drive back to Nyungwe National Park for a canopy walk. This 90 meters suspended metallic bridge will give us a great overview of Nyungwe forest and we may also spot some primates. (B, L, D)
Day 05: Boat ride & transfer to Musanze (Travel time +5 hours)
A beautiful sun rise experience over Lake Kivu. Our boat ride will help us explore the beautiful attractions within this great lake. We will also have a nature walk at one of the islands within this lake known for harboring thousands of bats. This lake is also known as a birding paradise as it hosts a number of bird species like the pied king fishers, weaver birds, heron to name just a few. A 3hours drive to Musanze and we are at the entry of the world famous Volcanoes National Park. We check into our hotel for a 2-night stay.

Day 06: Gorilla Trekking & Cultural visit
Today is the climax of our Rwanda Experience as we prepare for our “encounter” with the gorilla. After briefing at the park headquarters, we enter on foot the jungle with packed lunch to search for the shy mountain gorillas living in their own habitat. After “meeting” the gorillas, we may sit around these great apes for a whole hour watching them watching us take photos!. On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sun screen and a hat. The gorilla tracking experience can take half to a full day depending on the movements of the primates. After that we go back to our lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon, we go for a village safari on foot. Here we explore the indigenous local life with a taste of traditional performances at Iby Iwacu cultural center. (B, L, D)
Day 07: Golden Monkey trekking & transfer to Kigali (Travel time +2 hours)
After an early morning breakfast, we are picked by our safari driver/guide and driven to the park headquarters for briefing before we start off on our exciting Golden Monkey trekking. Unlike the gorilla trekking experience, Golden Monkey trekking isnot so hectic. After spending a fun time time with the Golden Monkeys we are back at our lodge for lunch, checkout and drive to Kigali. This scenic drive should take us about 3 hours and we go on a city tour of Kigali including visiting the Genocide Memorial Grounds, Museum, the Kimironko local market. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Rwanda where we also see images of the support and assistance offered during the Civil war.

Day 08: Departure transfer
After breakfast at our hotel, our Rwandan Experience is now coming to an end and we are transferred to the airport for our departure flight. Flights from Kigali connect with almost all of Bestway Tours & Safaris destinations including Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South and Southern Africa, Egypt, etc. Ask us for information for your next leg.
