Koryo, as the empire of undivided Korea was known, is now a land of two countries - each distinctly different from the other. These two countries came to be established in 1953 at the end of the Korean War when the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) now the border between them, was defined. While Koryo was an ancient land, North Korea is more known for exhibiting current history. Officially known as Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea follows the Juche philosophy developed by the 'great leader' Kim Il Sung. "Juche means that the masters of the revolution and construction are the masses of the people and they are also the motive force of the revolution and construction. In other words, one is responsible for one's own destiny." This is the philosophy by which this land is governed. It is probably the only country left that is so cut off from the rest of the world, specifically the western world. North Korea offers many attractions and the system, as well as the people and their approach to life are definitely the most interesting of them. This is definitely the time to visit this fascinating country, as it will not be long before the affects of the global village begin to take root.
