A unique journey specially tailored to include Borneo’s famous orangutan sanctuaries in Kalimantan and a cultural tour focused on Bali’s unique heritage sites. Borneo portion includes visits to the famous Camp Leakey, cruising the steams at Tanjung Puting National Park in the traditional Klotoks. Bali complements with something very different. Here we explore the multiple facets of Bali’s Hindu temples, see amazing rice terraces and finally rest on the beach after such busy exploration. An optional extension to Komodo is also available.

Day 01: Arrive Jakarta

Upon arrival at Jakarta, we are warmly welcomed and transferred to our hotel by the hotel shuttle service.

Overnight: Sheraton Bandara, Jakarta (1 night)

Day 02: Jakarta/Pangkalan Bun (Flight)/Orangutan Sanctuary (Boat)

Pondok Tanggui, Tanjung Putin National Park, Central Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia

An early morning flight gets us to Pangkalan Bun from where we drive to the pier in Kumai and board our Klotoks - a traditional wooden river boats with a roof to navigate amongst the streams at Tanjung Puting National Park. The park serves as an orangutan rehabilitation centre, where orphaned or formerly captive individuals are trained to live in the wild. We view the daily hour-long feedings of the orangutans at various jungle platforms. The river cruise will be our first real experience in the rainforest watching birds and wildlife. A delicious Indonesian lunch cooked onboard is served. After about 2 hours cruise we reach our first stop at Tanjung Harapan, where we take a short walk in the jungle to an orangutan feeding station. We may be fortunate to also see orangutans in their natural habitat too. After our visit to the feeding station, we navigate up river to the Rimba Lodge.

Day 03: Pondok Tanguy/Camp Leakey

The island of Kalimantan (Borneo)

A day of nature exploration at its best! Today we are in for more exciting possibilities of orangutan sightings as we take our boat to the feeding station at Pondok Tanguy. Here orangutans are fed in the mornings. After a short jungle walk we return to our boat and continue to explore the rainforest whilst enjoying another delightful lunch prepared by our boat crew. We then arrive at the famous Camp Leaky and trek through the jungle on an easy path to the feeding station located here for the afternoon feeding. We then return with our boat to our lodge for the evening. A day into nature at its best. (B, L, D)

Day 04: Orangutan Sanctuary/Pangkalan Bun/Denpasar (Flights)/Ubud (Drive)

Early morning we take our boat to the pier in Kumai and are transferred to the airport for our flight with connections to Bali. Upon arrival in Bali we are warmly and traditionally welcomed and then transferred to our hotel in Ubud, Bali’s artistic heart. Evening is free to explore.

Day 05: Mengwi/Alas Kedaton

A line of volcanoes dominate the landscape of Bali and have provided it with fertile soil which, combined with a wet tropical climate, make it an ideal place for crop cultivation. We drive to Batubulan village to see the famous Barong and Keris dance performances. In followed by a visit to Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave), a Hindu meditation center dating back to the 11th Century. We continue to Mengwi to visit the 18th-century Royal Water Temple of Pura Taman Ayun, which is part of the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province: the Subak System as a Manifestation of the Tri Hita Karana Philosophy UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is the largest and most impressive architectural edifice of its type on the island. Our tour ends at Kedaton, the Monkey Forest. Remainder of the day is free to explore Ubud’s many museums. (B, L)

Day 06: Kintamani/Besakih

Today we head to Tampak Spring to visit the holy spring water temple of Tirta Empul. Next we head to Kintamani, where we enjoy the amazing panoramic views of Lake Batur, Mt. Batur and Mr. Agung, Throughout our tour we see rice terraces that run through subak, the cooperative social system that controls the water, which has shaped the landscape over the past thousand years and is an integral part of religious life. Water from springs and canals flow through the temples and out onto the rice paddy fields. Water temples are the focus of a cooperative management of water resource by a group of subaks. Since the 11th century the water temple networks have managed the ecology of rice terraces at the scale of whole watersheds. Afternoon we proceed to Besakih Temple, the largest holiest site in Bali and home to the island’s Mother Temple, located at the slope of Mount Agung. The temple is comprised of 3 main complexes dedicated to the Hindu Trinity. It was built during the late 8th century AD. (B, L)

Day 07: Bedugul/Tanah Lot

Gunung Kawi, Tampaksiring, Bali, Indonesia

We visit Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a magnificent lakeshore temple, followed by a visit to the magnificent Eka Karya Botanic Garden that features 2,000 species of plants and 20,000 plant specimens ranging including orchids, roses, palms, ferns, bamboos and medicinal plants. After lunch at a local restaurant we continue to Tanah Lot, a temple that sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tides of the Indian Ocean to enjoy magnificent views of the sunset. Day 08: Ubud/Sanur (Drive)

Today we are transferred Sanur Beach area.  The rest of the day is free at leisure.

Day 10: Depart Sanur/Denpasar (Drive)

  • The silence begins at sunrise around 6:00am on Nyeli Day and lasts for the next 24 hours.
  • All shops are closed.
  • Guests are recommended to stay inside the hotels/resorts area.
  • When listening to music or watching TV in your hotel rooms, kindly keep the sound at minimum level.
  • There will be no traffic in the whole of Bali island.
  • Ngurah Rai airport (DPS) will be closed on Nyeli and no flights will be operating.
  • Emergency medical and police services remain functional.
