Day 01: Arrive Windhoek
Upon arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Namibia’s capital, Windhoek, we are welcomed and transferred to our accommodation for the night. We are met by our guide at the lodge before we embark on a short orientation city tour of Windhoek. Evening is spent at leisure.
Overnight: Klein Windhoek Guesthouse, Windhoek (1 night)
(Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)
Day 02: Windhoek/Sossusvlei (Drive)
Today we make our way to Namib-Naukluft National Park*, which is home to the Namib Desert. An inspiration for the name Namibia itself, the Namib is the oldest desert on earth. Its breathtaking, burnt orange shifting sand dunes are perhaps the most famous in the world.
Overnight: Agama River Camp, Sossusvlei (2 nights) (B, L)
(Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)
Day 03: Sossusvlei
Today we wake up early to visit the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These dunes, which can reach heights of over 300 meters, are absolutely spectacular and provide a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). We also stop to view the Sesriem Canyon, which was carved millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River. (B, L)
Day 04: Sossusvlei/Swakopmund (Drive)
Another interesting day as we drive through Namib-Naukluft National Park on our way to Swakopmund. The Namib Desert is home to some of the most rare plant and animal species in the world, and a drive to discover the flora and fauna is a must on any African safari vacation. The animals of this harsh landscape include oryx, springbok and Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra. Later in the day, we arrive at the charming coastal town of Swakopmund, with time in the afternoon to participate in a few of the town’s many optional activities or soak up the beauty and beaches.
Overnight: Hotel A La Mer, Swakopmund (2 nights) (B, L)
(Standard rooms with en suite bathrooms)
Day 05: Swakopmund
An early morning departure as we set out on our visit to Walvis Bay Waterfront. We will meet a local kayak guide and continue on a scenic drive along the Walvis Bay Lagoon to Pelican Point. Stop along the way to take pictures of countless flamingos, pelicans, large flocks of cormorants and a great variety of other birds and wildlife. Upon arriving at Pelican Point, we have a safety briefing with our local guide before enjoying a beautiful two hours on the ocean on the protected side of the peninsula (depending on general weather conditions). Afterwards we recharge during breakfast with fresh broetchens, tea and coffee before returning to Swakopmund. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure enjoying some of the town’s optional activities, including a Living Desert tour, an excursion to the surrounding townships, or a dolphin, seal and whale cruise. (B)
Day 06: Swakopmund/Omaruru (Drive)
Leaving the coastline behind, we head inland across the desert plains for Spitzkoppe, an iconic group of curved granite mountains with vivid colours. After a walk amongst the boulders to view the ancient Bushmen paintings and engravings, we continue on to the town of Omaruru and check in to our accommodation. Once a mission station, Omaruru has become an artistic hub for local crafts and other industries.
Overnight: Omaruru Guest House, Omaruru (2 nights) (B, L)
(Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool & dining room area)
Day 07: Omaruru
A unique experience today as we meet a local Bushmen community. The Bushmen will offer us a glimpse of their ancient hunter gatherer ways on a guided bush walk. As we explore the Living Museum of the San at Omandumba Farm, we will learn about the traditional uses of plants and herbs, hunting and gathering food, and lighting fire. Afternoon enjoy a stop at a local distillery and wine cellar in Omaruru to taste some of its home-grown produce. (B, L)
Day 08: Omaruru/Etosha National Park (Drive)
After we continue on to Namibia’s best known highlights of the north, Etosha National Park. Declared as a national park in 1907, Etosha is home to approximately 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and surprisingly, one species of fish. Today enjoy a game drive showcasing Etosha’s vast variety of wildlife.
Overnight: Toshari Lodge, Etosha National Park (2 nights) (B, L)
(Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)
Day 09: Etosha National Park
We enjoy our time in Etosha National Park with exciting game drives spotting leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, rhino and many different types of antelope. Elephant and lion are also particularly common. (B, L)
Day 10: Etosha National Park/Windhoek (Drive)
We leave the Etosha behind us and journey back to Windhoek through the beautiful countryside, making short stops en route. Once we arrive, the rest of the afternoon can be spent at leisure. Then enjoy a farewell dinner at the legendary Joe’s Beerhouse restaurant.
Overnight: Klein Windhoek Guesthouse, Windhoek (1 night) (B, L, D)
(Rooms with en suite bathrooms, swimming pool, bar and restaurant)
Day 11: Depart Windhoek
