Day 01: Arrive Chennai (Flight)

Arrival. Namaste! We are warmly welcomed the traditional Indian way with hands clapped together at the airport and transferred to our hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax. Chennai, gateway to South India, formerly known as Madras, is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu and is India's fifth largest city. It is located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal.

Day 02: Chennai

Today we embark on a cultural journey starting at the National Art Gallery & Museum, home to exquisite bronzes like the iconic Natraja. Next, we step into history at St. Mary's Church, a testament to Chennai's colonial past, dating back to 1680. Our exploration concludes with the serenity of People’s Park, the vast expanse of Marina Beach, and the timeless allure of the clock towers. Each stop reveals layers of Chennai's rich heritage, blending art, architecture, and natural beauty seamlessly.

Evening, enjoy a welcome dinner. Chennai food consists of a vast variety of cuisines and we will get a taste of the famous South Indian food. (B, D)

Day 03: Chennai/Mahabalipuram/Puducherry (Drive 170 Km/ 3 Hours)

After breakfast, we set out for Puducherry, stopping en route to explore the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram*. Dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries, these archaeological treasures, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are carved along the coast. Marvel at the breathtaking rathas, temples resembling chariots, and intricately adorned cave sanctuaries known as mandapas. Among them, the Rivage temple stands out, adorned with thousands of sculptures honoring Shiva. This journey through time and artistry offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of ancient India, a testament to the craftsmanship and devotion of its creators.

Today we explore the French-infused charm of Puducherry with a stroll along the Promenade Beach, lined with colonial-era buildings. Wander through the vibrant streets of the French Quarter, adorned with pastel-hued facades and quaint cafes. We visit the serene Aurobindo Ashram, hubs of spirituality and tranquility. Next, we tour Auroville, an experimental township dedicated to human unity and peace, encapsulated by the iconic Matrimandir. Then, immerse yourself in history and mythology at the Manakula Vinayagar Temple, adorned with 400-year-old frescoes narrating the tale of a divine lord, half-human and half-animal. Day 05: Puducherry/Tanjore (Drive 180 Km/ 4 Hours)

Our journey leads us to Thanjavur, fondly known as Tanjore, where we settle into our hotel. In the afternoon, we marvel at the Brihadisvara Temple*, a masterpiece among the Great Living Chola Temples, standing proudly for over a millennium. Its grandeur adorned with intricate details tells tales of dancers, musicians, and poets, showcasing its pivotal role in 11th century Indian art. Concluding our Tanjore exploration, we venture to the Tanjore Palace & Museum, housing a fascinating array of regal artifacts from the early 19th century, offering a glimpse into the opulent history and cultural heritage of this ancient city. After breakfast we drive to the vibrant city of Madurai, famed for its rich cultural heritage and ancient temples. Begin our exploration at the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple, a dazzling masterpiece of Dravidian architecture adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant sculptures. Stroll through the bustling streets of the surrounding markets, where the aroma of spices fills the air. Visit the historic Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace, a magnificent example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Evening we witness the spectacular Aarti ceremony. With its blend of history, spirituality, and bustling energy, Madurai offers an unforgettable journey into the heart of Tamil Nadu.

Upon reaching Coonoor, experience the enchanting charm of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway*, also known as the Toy Train, as it chugs its way to Ooty. Wind through scenic valleys and verdant tea plantations, relishing the cool mountain breeze and panoramic views along the way. This delightful journey promises an unforgettable adventure, weaving through the idyllic beauty of the Nilgiris with every twist and turn.

Day 09: Ooty

Today's adventure in Ooty begins with a visit to the enchanting Botanical Gardens, a haven of diverse flora and serene ambiance. Next, we ascend to Lamb's Rock and Doddabetta Peak, treating ourselves to breathtaking panoramas of the lush tea estates below. These vantage points offer a mesmerizing glimpse into Ooty's scenic beauty, with rolling hills and verdant valleys stretching as far as the eye can see.

Day 10: Ooty/Mysore (Drive 125 Km/ 4 Hours)

Day 11: Mysore

Today we embark on a regal journey through Mysore, steeped in history and grandeur. Begin at the opulent Mysore Palace, a magnificent blend of Indo-Saracenic architecture adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant paintings. Explore the serene Chamundi Hill, home to the ancient Chamundeshwari Temple and offering panoramic views of the city.

Day 12: Mysore/Hassan (Drive 120 Km/ 3 Hours)

Embark on a scenic drive to Hassan, a city renowned for its rich historical heritage. Spend the afternoon exploring the architectural marvels of Belur and Halebid*. Marvel at the intricate stone carvings and sculptures adorning the Chennakesava Temple in Belur, showcasing Hoysala craftsmanship. Then, journey to Halebid to admire the exquisite Hoysaleswara Temple, renowned for its intricate detailing and sculptural beauty. Immerse yourself in the timeless charm of these ancient temples, a testament to India's rich cultural legacy.

Day 14: Hampi

Today we visit Hampi - the magnificent city of ruins. A World Heritage Centre, Hampi is the most beautiful and evocative of all the ruins in Karnataka. This erstwhile capital of the Vijaynagar Empire boasts some exquisite examples of temple architecture of that period. The Vittala Temple, here is noted for its sculpted stone chariot and carved pillars that produce musical notes when struck. The Virupaksha Temple rises majestically and is the only temple at Hampi that is still used for worship. The Hazararama Temple, ornate with intricate carvings depicts scenes from the Ramayana. The other places of interest are Lotus Mahal: shaped like a lotus flower from above. Elephant Stables is a huge stable and a beautiful example of Hindu-Muslim style of architecture, housing 11 elephants in separate compartments. Pushkarini Tank, Mahanavami Dibba, and Mustard Ganesh: This is a 9 feet tall single stone statue, which is also known as Sasivikalu Ganesh. Noblemen's Palace: This place was recently discovered, and they suspect this was for aristocrats and high-ranking officials. (B)

Day 15: Hampi/Patadakal/Aihole/Badami (Drive)

After breakfast, we embark on a journey to Badami, stopping at the ancient sites of Pattadakal* and Aihole* en route. Pattadakal is a World Heritage Site renowned for its temples. Once the ceremonial center of the Chalukyan Empire, Pattadakal boasts temples spanning centuries, blending Rekha Nagara Prasada and Dravida Vimana architectural styles. Continuing our journey, we reach Aihole, known as the cradle of southern Dravida School temple architecture, showcases the remarkable Durga Temple and the Meguti Temple, a marvel built with 630 stone blocks.

Badami formerly known as Vatapi. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD. On arrive in Badami and we check in to our hotel.  Later we visit the famous caves at Badami. There are four caves here. The first three belong to the Vedic faith and the fourth cave is the only Jain temple in Badami.

Day 17: Bengaluru/ Onward Destination

Morning exploration of Bengaluru takes us to its cultural and architectural gems. We begin at the majestic Vidhana Soudha, a symbol of Karnataka's governance, crafted from Bengaluru granite. Next, we immerse ourselves in the tranquility of Cubbon Park, spanning 3000 acres of lush greenery. Discover the rich history of Tipu Sultan at his stunning palace-turned-museum, a testament to Islamic architecture. Conclude our journey at Lal Bagh Garden, a botanical paradise boasting rare trees from Persia, Afghanistan, and France, offering a serene retreat amidst the bustling cityscape. (B)
